A counselling organisation which helps people through the toughest times has moved into its new centre of operations.

Relate has moved into its new home at the corner of Milton Road and Station Road, next door to Harrow Civic centre.

The new hub will be Relate London North West’s headquarters for providing counselling, mediation and training in Harrow and for six other boroughs including Barnet, Brent, Ealing and Hillingdon.

The centre was officially opened by Mayors of three boroughs and Harrow’s new Mayor Ajay Maru along with MP for Harrow West Gareth Thomas.

Mr Thomas said: “Relate provides a vital source of support for individuals, couples and families in the community, often at a difficult and stressful time in their lives.

“What I also think is essential is that people realise the important services that relate supply and how so many people benefit from them.”

The new home is in Harrow Borough Council’s Civic Nine building which Relate shares with Harrow Citizen Advice Bureau.

Chief executive of Relate London North West Ewan Malcolm, who took over the role in November last year, said: “We’re delighted to be here in our new home. The move was a challenge but one we relished.

“What we really want to let people know is that we are still here to help its stressful times. And even if we can’t help directly we will find the best place that can.

“I think our work is changing because relationships are changing. The number of marriages is not increasing but divorce is and the idea of a nuclear family doesn’t really exist anymore.

“So we have to adapt to those changes and in Harrow we also have to figure out how we can work more with the diverse communities of the borough.”

Relate London North West offers a range of services including counselling for individuals, couples and families, sex therapy, mediation and training and has been working in Harrow since 1946.
