Plans for the expansion of four schools to help cope with an increasing demand for places are due to be discussed by councillors.

Harrow Borough Council's planning committee will decide whether to allow expansion plans at Cannon Lane school, in Pinner, Shaftesbury School, in Harrow Weald, Whitchurch School, in Stanmore and Norbury School in Harrow.

The work is part of the second phase of a school expansion by Harrow Council to provide thousands of extra places.

In May this year, three other schools were given the go ahead by councillors to help the borough cope with the rising demand in the years to come.

The first phase of the expansion plan is already underway with eight schools permanently expanded from September last year.

During the past two years the council has secured funding from the Government for the second phase of expansion, including £30million from the Government’s targeted basic needs fund.

The expansion programme will allow Harrow council to provide 3,000 places in primary, secondary and special educational needs schools by 2015.

The plans will be discussed by councillors at the meeting of the planning committee on Wednesday June 18.
