Pupils were treated to a spot of opera as part of a tour visiting schools across the borough.

Children at Roxbourne Primary School, in Torbay Road, South Harrow, were visited by Pavilion Opera Educational Trust (POET) this week.

It was one of four schools visited this week for a series of performances Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte, which organisers hope will foster an appreciation of classical music among pupils.

POET chairman Geoffrey Simmonds said: “Our programme of introducing opera to young people helps address the government’s mandate to provide five hours of culture in the school curriculum.

“We also believe it has significant long term effects on the cultural development of future generations.”

After the performance, children were given the chance to meet the cast and musicians to find out more about opera.

This is the first year the trust has toured the performance in Harrow and it hopes to continue the programme in the borough for the next two years.
