A man has been recognised as a charity's volunteer of the year for his dedicated work in the fight against heart disease.

Steve Malde, from Kingsbury, received London Volunteer of the Year Award from the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as part of National Volunteers week.

Mr Malde was recognised for his work delivering Emergency Life Support training, helping the charity raise money for life-saving research into heart disease and training more than 1,000 people in London.

He said: "I am delighted to have been given such a prestigious title as there are so many worthy volunteers who give their time to the BHF.

"I have met so many wonderful people and have some lovely memories.

"I would encourage anyone to volunteer for the BHF as it is such a rewarding experience and you get to meet the most fantastic and inspiring people.

"We also have a lot of support as volunteers and there are lots of things you can do to get involved."

Community fundraising manager from the BHF Stephanie Davenport said: "I am delighted that we can recognise Steve's commitment.

"He is always at the forefront of all events and seems to effortlessly juggle numerous tasks at one time to help bring in as much money as possible.

"I would love for other people in London to join our fight for every heartbeat in the UK.

"There is no better time to find out how volunteering your time can make a difference, so please get in touch today."
