Developers planning to tear down a historic pub to make way for new homes have appealed against a council decision to reject the proposals.

Plans to demolish the Letchford Arms, in Hatch End, were turned down by Harrow Borough Council's planning committee in March this year.

Proposals for the Letchford Terrace site, off Headstone Lane, included the demolition of the 1920s pub and the construction of six three-storey houses.

An appeal has been lodged by the developers with the Planning Inspectorate and the procedure will be carried out by written representations.

Planning officers had originally recommend approving the plans but councillors turned down the plans due to concerns over the marketing of the premises and the search to find a new landlord for the pub before it was sold for development.

In the planning appeal statement developers say the property was marketed for sale as a pub for a period of 12 months.

They said: "The redevelopment would provide six, three-bed family homes, with a raft of other benefits that flow from the development including fulfilling an identified need for housing."

The pub had been closed down in 2012 after police got a court order following a spate of incidents including reports of drug use and violence and drug use.
