Hundreds of people turned out to support a charity football match in honour of teenage footballer killed outside his school.

Kiyan Prince was stabbed in an attack outside the London Academy, in Spur Road, on May 18, 2006.

Yesterday a football match took place in his memory at the Hive Football Centre, in Edgware to mark the eighth year of since his death.

More than 200 people turned up for the match between Celeb FC and Warrior Old Boys.

The event raised more than £1,000 for The Kiyan Prince Foundation, which was founded by his father Mark.

Mr Prince said: “It was really touching to see so many people there all joining together to share their memories about Kiyan.

“He had such a huge impact on people’s lives in the area but you don't realise it until you see all those people there.

“It was really nice to come back to Edgware and connect with them and celebrate Kiyan’s life.

“It was a fantastic response from the community and to see that he had an impact on so many people.

Last week Mr Prince spoke to the Harrow Times about the match and the work of the Kiyan Prince Foundation.

As part of his role with the foundation Mr Prince talks to teenagers in schools and youth groups about the impact of knife crime.

He said: “I feel it is important to come back to Edgware because with all the work I have done with the foundation I feel I should do more here.

“Ever since what happened, there has always been something inside of me driving me forward and I want to create a positive legacy from Kiyan’s life.”

Kiyan Prince was a member of Queens Park Rangers youth football team and in support of the charity match the club donated shirts for one of the teams to play in on the day.
