An organisation is calling on the public to ‘support the pledge’ to help unpaid carers across the borough.

Earlier this month members of Harrow Carers and Harrow Borough Council launched the new pledge to help reach thousands of carers in the area who are missing out on support and services.

In the run up to national Carers Week next month, the group will be calling for as many people as possible to back the campaign.

Independent organisation Harrow Carers supports carers and estimates there are more than 24,000 people in the borough providing unpaid care for loved ones or neighbours.

Borough Commander from London Fire Brigade Richard Claydon and Police borough commander Simon Ovens have both said they will support the pledge.

Mr Claydon said: "It is vital that partners work together to raise awareness of the most vulnerable members of our community and spread the message that there is support available if needed.

“Officers from all fire stations in Harrow will be looking out for carers and on behalf of the London Fire Brigade in Harrow I would like to offer our assistance with the Support the Pledge Quest.

Mr Ovens said: “I commend the enthusiasm behind the Support the Pledge Harrow Quest.

"Our officers have established excellent links with Adult Social Care and we remain committed in highlighting vulnerable people and their carers to Harrow Council and Harrow Carers.

“We will continue to spread the word about carer support through our safer neighbourhood teams, via officers on patrol.”
