The author of a new book has donated 500 copies to help raised money for a museum’s expansion.

Comedy writer Geoff Atkinson has donated 500 copies of his book Colin Nugent saves Britain to be sold by the Heath Robinson Museum at West House.

William Heath Robinson was a cartoonist and illustrator best known for his drawing of eccentric but logical contraptions and lived in Pinner.

Last year it was announced the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded a grant of £1.13 million to The West House and Heath Robinson Museum Trust’s project to build an extension to facility.

However an extra £150,000 is needed to start the construction phase which is due to begin this autumn.

The signed books cost £5 and are available at the New Leaf Bookshop in Pinner, or the Heath Robinson Gallery at West House in Pinner Memorial Park.

Mr Atkinson, who also written for Spitting Image and Rory Bremner, said: “Many of Heath Robinson’s illustrations poke fun at behaviours which make people smile and I think Colin would find it appropriate that his letters might be used to build such an exciting project.”

All money will go towards the building of the museum which will tell the story of Heath Robinson’s life, with a gallery and activity room for schools and children.
