Possible sites for hundreds of new homes have been earmarked following assessments of the borough’s council estates.

Harrow Borough Council has carried out feasibility studies on six of the borough's estates for potential regeneration and improvement to help build more homes.

Sites include the Grange Farm and Alexandra Avenue and would come under the council’s Homes for Harrow initiative to make full use of the authority’s assets.

The scheme was announced in January this year and includes the regenerating of some estates in Harrow and building new homes on the site of old garages.

Cabinet member for housing Cllr Barry Macleod-Cullinane said: “Good quality, affordable housing is in huge demand in the borough and our Homes for Harrow initiative is a central part of the council’s vision for meeting that demand.

“I’m delighted to announce our plans to redevelop Harrow’s estates and to build more homes for our residents.

“There’s still a long road ahead but we’ve already taken some important first steps in redeveloping Harrow’s most run-down estates – like Grange Farm and Howards and Deacons Close – and in building brand new homes for our residents.”

During the past three months housing officers have been carrying out consultation events with people about how they would like to see their areas improved.

At the council’s cabinet meeting this week, members will vote on recommendations to move forward with the proposals and continue with financial modelling work.

The sites which are under consideration for work are Alexandra Avenue, Amy Johnson Court, Brookside Close, Grange Farm estate, Hazeldene Drive and Pinner Green flats and Howard’s and Deacon’s Close.

Officers estimate it may take several years before work starts on building new homes or regenerating estates.
