A headteacher behind a bid to found a new Church of England school says it would be a benefit to the whole community.

Bishops Ramsey School and the London Diocesan Board of schools are planning to open a new school at the Heathfield School for Girls' site in Beaulieu Drive, Pinner.

But the site in Pinner has also been earmarked for another free school application submitted by high schools from across Harrow.

Heathfield is due to close and merge with Northwood College, in Hillingdon in September this year.

The proposed name for the new school is currently Pinner Church of England Free School.

Next week there will be two public meetings where people will be able to find out more about the proposals.

Headteacher of Bishops Ramsey school Andrew Wilcocks said: “Harrow is one of the few areas which doesn’t have a Church of England secondary school and our school is consistently oversubscribed.

“We wanted to create a new school to cater to pupils unable to get into Bishops Ramsey but also a school that the whole community would benefit from.

“It is a project I am very excited about. The governors of the school have wanted to found a school for some time and we decided to seize this opportunity.”

“The new school will have a Christian ethos and teach the importance of spirituality and forgiveness.”

The applications for the two free schools will go to the Department of Education which will decide on which will get the site.

The department may give the go ahead to both applications, giving one the former Heathfield’s site and propose an alternative site for the other.

On Wednesday March 26 at Pinner Village Hall, in Chapel Lane, Pinner, there will be a meeting on the new secondary school for the village from 7.30pm.

A second meeting will also take place at Pinner Free Church, in Paines Lane, Pinner, on Thursday March 26 from 7.30pm.
