Harrow police and community consultative group to hold last meeting

A police consultative group is to hold its last meeting as it is due to be replaced by a new neighbourhood safety board.

The Harrow police and community consultative group will meet on Monday March 24 from 7.30pm at the Harrow Borough Council Civic Centre.

The meeting will feature an update from Borough Commander Chief Supt Simon Ovens on the new policing model being rolled out across the capital.

There will also be information for people about the new neighbourhood safety board and its responsibilities.

From April the group will be replaced by the borough's safety board, which was announced at the end of last year.

The new body will include 12 members of the public, two councillors, two representatives from the youth parliament and member of staff from Victim Support.

It will be responsible for monitoring performance of the police, support the council's Neighbourhood Champions scheme and raising crime problems with police.

The HARROW POLICE & COMMUNITY CONSULTATIVE GROUP welcome you all very warmly to the FAREWELL meeting of this Public Forum. We would greatly appreciate your presence and participation to help empower you with knowledge of the changing policing landscape, which is happening London-wide.We are following the formula from the Mayor's Office of Policing and Crime (MOPAC) for all London Boroughs.

This special meeting will be held in the Council Chamber ,7 for 730pm and will start promptly from 730pm.Please sign in as you enter and leave us your contact details.

There will be ample opportunity for you to quiz the Borough Commander of Harrow,Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens and be re-assured that the quality of service you will continue to receive will be of a high standard. He aims to make us the safest London borough ,with your unreserved support over the next year or two.We are relying on your support to make this a reality.

You will receive the latest information about Police Performance in Harrow and how it compares with other London boroughs in addition to the new Policing model already in operation in parts of London and its impact on Harrow's policing.

In addition,Mike Howes,Service Manager for Policy and Partnerships at Harrow Council will spell out what the Safer Neighbourhood Board(SNB) will do for Harrow. These are already operational on other London Boroughs. Each one is being tailored to suit the individual character of the borough. Its composition aims to reflect the local complexion and be representative of our diverse population.

You will appreciate this is a new way of conducting our engagement so there will probably be a period of leaning and adjustment as we go forward.Come and find out more about the changing landscape in policing.

I humbly beseech you to have an open mind and go with the flow.Your attendance at future SNB meetings must be as healthy as they have been throughout the life span of the HPCCG and robust accountability will make it possible for us to still have a voice in how we are policed!

Of course,we are extremely keen to see you and thank you for the tremendous support given throughout many long years.Your contributions are too many to list.

Please encourage as many as possible to attend and make this a hugely successful evening for all Harrovians. With your help,we will make our Borough top of the Policing charts in the near future.Neighbourhood Champions and Safer Neighbourhood Panel members please do your bit to help spread the word. Please share this information widely with your contacts and be a wonderful Harrovian.

As Publicity Officer of the HPCCG I thank you most warmly for working as a very united team and look forward to seeing you on March 24th.

Last but not least,A VERY HAPPY HOLI TO ALL THOSE CELEBRATING on MARCH 16th,a festival of colours and fresh hope, welcoming Spring.

Just for everybody's information this is happening with EVERY SINGLE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT GROUP THROUGHOUT LONDON,not just Harrow. We are unique and its all down to you,the citizens of Harrow and our partners in fighting crime.

HPCCG is proud of its track record, that despite no funding for the past two years,we, the VOLUNTEERS have managed, at our personal expense, to keep the only qualified Community engagement group going-- just to provide the best service we could for all Harrovians--those who have continued to support us loyally and those who wish to throw darts at everything and everybody on this planet.

.We have carried on regardless and taken everything in our stride for the sake of our citizens and their safety, rather like our bobbies on the beat.

The co-operation from the METROPOLITAN POLICE has been second to none .Hats off to them!Their diligence has been exemplary.

Chief Superintendent SIMON OVENS will be attending this farewell meeting to give a robust account of our local policing. It is for us to stand up and applaud what his work force are doing but also alert them of anything which might undermine their considerable efforts to protect us 24/7.Come and quiz your Borough Commander .He is waiting to meet you all and to hear from you.Help him make Harrow the safest London brough over the next two years..

Special grateful thanks to HARROW COUNCIL who have faithfully supported us with rooms to hold these meetings free of charge as did the HARROW EQUALITIES CENTRE.We would have found it extremely hard to serve you without their considerable help and encouragement.,being hard up!

A huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all our local Councillors,Leaders of Harrow Council,Mayors past and present,Alderman Keith Toms,GLA member,Neighbourhood Champions,Safer Neighbourhood Panels and their teams,Harrow Police from to top to bottom--including New Scotland Yard,City Hall,The Fire Dept, our Faith Groups and innumerable community groups and many, many more. The Harrow Observer and Harrow Times have also been great supporters all these years and deserve much thanks. Thanks also to press coverage from ASIAN CULTURE and ASIAN VOICE.Please accept apologies for any errors and omissions made

.EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IS SIMPLY ACE!You have done us proud and have risen to our motto of "Ask not what your community is doing for you but what YOU are doing for YOUR community

."A very noble idea taken from John F Kennedy when he spoke about everybody contributiing to the good of the USA.

Last but not least the wonderful PUBLIC of Harrow without whom we would have no real team.Keep on being active participants and taking responsibility for your own community.

As we move forward, let's aim to pull out all the stops and help make our new SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD BOARD equally strong, efficient and robustly accountable to the peoples of Harrow so that other London Boroughs try to emulate what we set up with your unstinting support, just as they often did, during the lifetime of the HPCCG.

See many of you on Monday 24 March in the Council Chamber 7 for 730pm.God bless Harrow.

Sonoo Malkani, if your group was unique and accountable to the peoples of Harrow, then why die Susan Hall go backwards to close it? Is Susan Hall going to appoint you to the new board?
