Inspirational women shared their experiences and achievements as part of a deaf club’s International Women’s Day celebration.

The Bridge, in Christchurch Avenue, Harrow, was buzzing with visitors who enjoyed the Harrow United Deaf Club’s event.

The evening was opened by Harrow’s mayor, Councillor Nana Asante, who shared her experiences of the positive role models who inspired her in her journey before becoming the first citizen.

Other speakers included former mechanic-turned politician council leader Susan Hall, the first Chinese female Deputy Lieutenant of Brent, Mei Sim, and deaf club founder Sabina Iqbal.

The day also featured a pampering session for women and girls, run by Harrow College students, and arts and craft stalls.

President Asif Iqbal said: “The speakers were extremely powerful in their speeches about their experiences, all of them came from different backgrounds.

“They have all broken the glass ceiling to get to where they are now.

“They have fought hard to achieve their goals and by sharing their stories, they are positive role models and showed that if they can do it, all other women and girls can do it too.”
