Traders rally together to help revive South Harrow

Traders are rallying together to turn South Harrow into a “lively part of town”.

A group of shopkeepers in Northolt Road feared the area was becoming a forgotten part of the borough, so formed the South Harrow Traders Association in August 2011.

The street is full of independent retailers - including supermarkets and gift shops. Now they are encouraging people to shop local and spread the word about what South Harrow has to offer.

Shahram Irvani, who owns Alexandra Park Estate Agents, in Northolt Road, said: “It’s a cosmopolitan area, well connected by train lines.

“This is a lively part of town but it isn’t living up to its full potential at the moment.

“We’ve got so much to offer here but trade has been terrible.”

He added: “We do lots of activities and lots of charity events. It’s such a nice area, we want shoppers to see that.”

Trade is terrible because of the god awful shops there. As a resident of SH I rarely shop there. Pound shop after pound shop, oh look another grocery shop. And look there yet another restaurant catering ONLY to a select group of 'persons'. The area around the station has the most footfall, but what shops are there? A horrid chicken shop, yet another grocery **** household goods **** convenience store. Very rare few large retailers such as Nandos or Superdrug. Oh yes and we cant forget the lovely brothels operating above Costa. I'd rather go into Harrow to do shopping. SH itself is grubby looking, the roads are in poor condition and there is no real ambience. The shop fronts are dirty and unkempt, not welcoming at all and oh yes we cant forget that half the traders there cant even speak English!!!
