More than 200 people got the chance to view potential new homes as part of a property exchange event.

Harrow Borough Council and housing association tenants attended the Mutual Exchange event last week to help tenants find a more suitable home.

Families looking for a larger home or older couples looking to downsize attended the event, which the council hopes will help reduce housing waiting lists.

Maria Bissett, 30, of Stanmore, said: “I need an extra bedroom. I have three boys in a two-bedroom flat at the moment.

“I’m happy now that I’ve been here, I’ve been looking for ages and not found anything but here you can speak to people and everything’s really well explained.”

Cabinet member for housing Cllr Barry Macleod-Cullinane said: “Whether it is to get a larger or smaller home, mutual exchange can be a good solution to helping our tenants move to a property that better meets their needs and finances.

“By creating more choice and mobility for our tenants, these schemes and our Mutual Exchange event also help to reduce our housing waiting lists.”
