Former public toilets, a park lodge and a daycare centre were among buildings that went under the hammer for more than £2million.

Five properties owned by Harrow Borough Council were auctioned on Thursday, February 13 by Allsops Residential Auction.

The toilet block, in Whitchurch Lane, Edgware, had been turned into a home by eastern European squatters, and sold for £410,000 as having potential for redevelopment.

A former park keeper’s house in Cannons Park, in Donnefield Avenue, was also sold at the auction and went for £540,000.

The sale was controversial with the Friends of Canons Park and the Canons Park Residents Association (CaPRA), who said the council should have used the site for the benefit of the community and park users.

According to the auction website, a former day care centre in Marlborough Hill was sold for £1.3million and an end of terrace house in The Gardens, off Pinner Road, in West Harrow went for £415,000.

Finally a plot of land in Church Road, just of Elm Park, in Stanmore which was formally used for parking by people living nearby was also sold for possible redevelopment for £400,000.

Harrow Council says any money raised from the auction will be put back into the authority’s capital budget for building work and other services.

The authority agreed to put the properties on sale in October last year and the intention to sell them was publicly advertised for two consecutive weeks in December.
