People will have the chance to meet members of Team GB and see the results of a £1.7million investment at a leisure centre on Saturday.

Harrow Leisure Centre has had improvements as part of a deal agreed between Harrow Borough Council and leisure management company Everyone Active.

On Saturday January 11 the centre, in Christchurch Avenue, will be holding an open day for people to use some of the improved facilities and take part in free taster sessions.

As part of the day, members of Team GB swimming and former Olympic swimmer Steve Parry will be running sessions in the pool including synchronised swimming, lifeguarding and water polo.

Mr Parry visited the centre last year along with hundreds of school pupils for the Harrow Legacy Games to encourage children to get more active.

Improvements at the gym include extensive refurbishment of a 200-station gym, development of a new dance studio, a new dry-side changing area, sauna and steam room on the poolside.

Everyone Active took over the running of the borough’s leisure facilities in September last year and is responsible for the running of the leisure centre, Hatch End Swimming Pool and Bannister Outdoor Sports Centre.

The company runs Harrow’s facilities in collaboration with neighbouring councils of Ealing and Brent.
