Caravan site proposals for Broadfields playing fields return
Plans to turn a set of playing fields into a caravan site have been submitted for the second time.
The controversial proposals for Broadfields Playing Fields were first submitted in April last year but were withdrawn by owners Harrow Community sport before councillors could make a decision.
The new plans were given to Harrow Borough Council seeking permission to create a touring caravan and camping site with 75 pitches and the construction of other buildings.
Last year more than 2,000 people signed a petition against the plans as part of the Save Broadfields campaign calling for the site to remain for sports use.
National sports organisation Sports England backed a community campaign stating it was against the loss of any playing fields which could still be used by the community.
Officers from the council planning department had originally recommended the plans be refused.
However before the council planning committee could discuss plans owner of the site in Headstone Lane Richard Gabriel withdrew the application, and announced he would reapply.
