Police are calling for witnesses following the death of an 11-year-old girl who was hit by a car yesterday.

Emergency services were called to The Common, in Stanmore at 12.21pm yesterday to reports of a car hitting two pedestrians at a bus stop.

London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance treated an 11-year-old girl but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed and police say they are waiting for formal identification.

Her mother, 46, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

At this stage police believe a Ford Fiesta mounted the pavement and collided with people waiting at the bus stop and a stationary bus.

A woman, 69, who was driving the Ford Fiesta had to be cut out of her car by the Fire Brigade and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, of the road death investigation unit said: “We are aware that there were a number of passengers on the bus involved, and a number of other vehicles in the vicinity.

“If you have any information we would like to hear from you so we can work out exactly what happened."

Officers say no arrests have been made and enquires into the cause of the collision are continuing.
