Fears Barnet FC ground-share will bring disruption

Harrow Times: London Broncos Rugby League club will share The Hive with Barnet FC from next year London Broncos Rugby League club will share The Hive with Barnet FC from next year

An MP has raised concerns after a rugby league club announced it would share Barnet FC’s stadium the Hive.

The London Broncos Rugby League club will move in alongside Barnet at the Camrose Avenue stadium starting from next year.

But MP for Harrow East Bob Blackman fears the deal will see an increase in traffic problems and general disruption around the site.

He said: “I am angry and concerned more so than ever by the actions of Barnet Football Club, coupled with the seeming inertia once again displayed by Harrow Council.

"Residents, who were of the understanding just months ago that no professional sports fixtures would be taking place there, now face year-round disruptions locally from traffic, parking congestion, and noise and light pollution on matchdays.

“We now have a football team from a different borough and a rugby league team with no previous link to Harrow playing in the borough, and it has been achieved all too stealthily by Mr Kleanthous.

“The standard of consultation of Harrow residents has been at best minimal, and we now have a situation where the welcome mat seems to be out to all comers.

“I urge Harrow Council to take a stand here and remind Barnet FC of what was contractually agreed, and who is the landlord to whom.”

Barnet FC Tony Kleanthous has said the deal represents a new beginning for London Broncos and hoped it would increase participation in rugby league in north London.

The Harrow Times has contacted the council about the arrangement and is awaiting a reply.

Here we go again Bob Blackman scrambling for votes by trying to curry favour with the floating voters of Harrow East and in particular the Not In My Back Yard brigade..

As a Tory Bob should be welcoming the enterprise, jobs and community facilities that Barnet and their associated activities have brought to the local economy.

It's not the Barnet Football Fans that cause the traffic problems. It is the selfish parents of the Sunday Youth League who are unwilling to get out of their cars or let their little darlings walk further than they have to.

I like Bob he is a good MP, but he is talking rubbish on this issue. The Broncos barely attract enough crowds to fill a phone box and those that do go will be spending welcome money in our borough. Go back to the important issues Bob there an awful lot of things that need sorting in Harrow and which very small rugby league club uses a local sports stadium is not one of them.
