In February, shoppers and traders in Harrow town centre were in shock after a man attempted to jump of the St George’s Shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to the centre to reports of a man on the roof and after an hour standoff he fell, landing on a ledge.

The man, who was in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics for cuts and bruises and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Traders in St Ann’s Road spoke to the Harrow Times about their shock at the incident, but some said they were not surprised as it was not the first time someone had fallen from the building.

Also in February, councillors shared their fears over the effect £43million cuts called for in a planned merger of two hospital trusts.

The concerns were raised of the effect on Northwick Park Hospital of proposals to merge Ealing Hospital Trust and North West London Hospital Trust.

Councillor Krishna James, then chairman of Harrow Borough Council’s health and scrutiny committee, warned the effect of cuts in the borough was not yet known.

Work towards the merger has continued, and is expected to be completed in 2014.

In other news, Cllr James Bond told the Harrow Times he was appalled at the discovery that Harrow Borough Council spent more than £4million on consultants in just over two years.

He pointed out the council was spending the vast sums on consultants despite cuts of more than £650,000 from the authority’s street cleaning, rubbish collection and park maintenance budgets.
