A decision to scrap plans for 20-minute free parking is to be reviewed by councillors.

Harrow Borough Council’s cabinet decision, made earlier this month, will be examined by the call-in sub-committee on Tuesday, November 2, at the Civic Centre, in Station Road.

The proposals from the previous Independent Labour administration to roll out 20-minutes' free parking across the whole borough were scrapped following a trial in Rayners Lane which started in the summer.

Six councillors have called for the decision to be reviewed on the grounds that there was not enough consultation with stakeholders beforehand and a lack of evidence to support the decision.

Traders from Rayners Lane have already joined together to protest against the cabinet decision, which they argued was making a difference to business.

Labour councillors have started a petition which has been signed by hundreds of people calling for the decision to be reversed.

The councillors who have called in the decision, who include Labour leader David Perry and Independent Labour leader Thaya Idaikkadar, want the decision to be referred to full council for a vote.
