Harrow Borough Council worker shows off hidden talents at international competition
A council member of staff showed off his hidden talent after coming second in an international a model flying competition.
John Greenfield, a highways team leader in engineering services for Harrow Borough Council, came second at the GPS World Masters competition in Spain last week.
The competition tested his skills flying an 8m-wide model plane at speeds of up to 135mph.
He said: “I am really proud to have competed at this level, and to have waved the union flag on the podium. It’s such a tremendous honour – I’m thrilled to bits.
“GPS racing is a fairly new discipline, so already to have a British person within the top three globally is a really encouraging sign, and I hope it will encourage more people to take an interest in it.”
During his day job Mr Greenfield is responsible for keeping the roads of the borough safe, serviceable and in working order.
The event involves racing model gliders race over a triangular course where the turn points are denoted by GPS coordinates.
