Weald Junior School gets Heritage Lottery Fund grant
Children will be teaching others about the heritage of Harrow Weald after being handed money to carry out historical research.
Harrow Borough Council secured a grant of £40,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for Weald Junior School, in Robin Hood Drive, to learn about the heritage of Harrow Weald.
The money will pay for a history project in which children will find out about the history of All Saints Church in Uxbridge Road and its heritage in the area.
Pupils will then help to make a film, set up a website and create a history pack to be used by other schools and visitors to the church.
Headteacher Michael Curtin said: “It’s great that we have been awarded this grant and we can’t wait to get started.
“We love where we live and know there’s so much more to discover about our past. We are all really excited about telling other people about our findings and sharing our heritage and history with them.”
Cabinet member for schools Cllr Janet Mote said: “I’m delighted that the council has been successful in securing this money.
“It’s important that our schoolchildren feel proud of our borough and its magnificent history, and this project will ensure they do just that.”
