Pinner carpenter into finals of national competition
A young carpenter has won a place in national multi-trade competition.
Matthew Westhead, 19, of Pinner, beat off competition from across London to win a place at the Skills Show in Birmingham in Novermber.
The College of North West London construction trainee will be competing against the best trainees in the country in the carpentry category at the three-day competition.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to competing and I hope to do the college proud. The London regionals were the first external competition I had entered and I really enjoyed it.
"I can’t wait to get to Birmingham to start working on my design and bringing it to life.”
The Skills Show is the country’s biggest skills and careers show, and the finals of SkillBuild 2013 will bring together the UK's best young construction trainees in areas from stone masonry to painting and decorating.
Head of technology at the college Pat Leavey said: “We always encourage our students to enter competitions as it motivates them, raises their expectations and develops their skills.
“We’re delighted to see Matthew go through to the national finals of SkillBuild 2013.
“It’s a real testament to the work that he has been doing, and we foresee a bright future ahead for him.”
