Hundreds turn out for Silver Star Diabetes charity walk in Harrow
Hundreds of people took part in a charity fun walk and got the chance to meet a Bollywood legend while raising awareness of diabetes.
Harrow-based charity Silver Star Diabetes hosted the inaugural Fun Walk from Cannons Park to its headquarters in Whitchurch Lane.
A selection of lucky walkers had their names pulled out in a draw and will get certificates presented by Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan, the international patron of the charity at the Palace of Westminster.
The walk was led by Harrow Borough Council chief executive Michael Lockwood to mark the authority’s partnership with the charity.
A spokesman for the charity said the council had done an "outstanding job in raising awareness for diabetes in the local community".
The charity also says Harrow has one of the highest diabetes rates in London, with an estimated 9.2 per cent of people aged 16 and above suffering from the condition.
