New leisure contract for Harrow signed
The management and running of the borough’s leisure centres have been taken over by a new company which says it will invest in facilities.
Contracts between Harrow Borough Council and leisure company Everyone Active were signed last week, in collaboration with neighbouring councils of Ealing and Brent.
The company will now be responsible for the running of the borough’s facilities, Harrow Leisure Centre, Hatch End Swimming Pool and Bannister Outdoor Sports Centre.
Duncan Jefford, regional director for Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be working with Harrow Council in providing top class facilities and programming for the local community.
“We are committed to providing the best facilities and service possible and our proposed plans aim to make the centre inclusive and accessible for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds and encourage participation in a range of sports and healthy activities.”
Everyone Active says Harrow Leisure Centre, in Christchurch Avenue, will benefit from £1.7million worth of investment.
This will include improvements such as a new sauna and steam room on the poolside, a dry-side changing area, developing a new dance studio and indoor cycle studio and expansion of the gym.
Councillor Nizam Ismail, who is responsible for community and culture, said: “The new and improved gym and exercise areas will give everyone in the borough even more opportunities to benefit from a fit and healthy lifestyle.”
