A man is in hospital following a suspected stabbing in the middle of a busy shopping street.

Police were called to the scene in Station Road, Harrow, at the junction with St Anne’s Road, near Katie’s Statue, to reports of two men fighting in the street.

London Ambulance Services were called to the scene to reports of a stabbing at 2.48pm.

The victim was taken to an east London hospital via air ambulance. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries continue.

Forensic teams are now at the scene examining the area and police are collecting witness statements.

Traders and shoppers have been left in shock after the incident.

Hina Patel from Specsavers opticians, said: “We saw there was a lot of commotion up by the seats round the statue.

“People said they could see blood on the floor and a jacket.

“It’s just horrible for something like this to happen in broad daylight. Especially on a busy shopping day, when the schools are still out, its just shocking."

Charlotte Broderic, who works in a shop near the scene of the incident, said: “I didn’t see it happen but I saw all the people outside afterwards.

“I saw the guy who had been stabbed just sitting on one of the benches and some people were sitting with him helping him.

“It’s just crazy something like that would happen in the middle of the day the centre of Harrow on a busy day.”

Station Road is currently closed in both directions, with bus routes on diversion.
