Plans for new homes and a supermarket on the site of a former resource centre have been revealed.

The proposals for the site of Anmer Lodge, in Coverdale Close, Stanmore, have been released following agreement between Harrow Borough Council, Notting Hill Housing and Marks & Spencer.

Currently developers have said the plans include affordable housing and a 15,000sq ft Marks & Spencer Simply Food store.

Following the agreement, Notting Hill Housing says it is keen for the local community to have its say on the plans before a planning application for the site is submitted to the council near the end of this year.

Project manager from the housing group, Roger Arkell, said: “We are looking forward to sharing our early concepts with the local community and stakeholders in Stanmore ahead of us working up detailed plans.

“We appreciate there will be a number of interested parties and individuals with views about the design, the impact of the proposals and effects of the construction on the local area.

“It’s for these reasons that it’s vital the community are able to feed into our emerging proposals from a very early stage.”

Harrow Councils leader Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar said: "This is an important site in Stanmore and I’m pleased that we are making positive progress towards its revitalisation."

He added the addition of a food store would be "a boost for existing retailers and a benefit to our residents and visitors”.

Cllr Idaikkadar said: “We are excited about the plans to enhance the current retail mix and providing much-needed high quality homes for the local community.”

However concerns have been raised by MP Bob Blackman over the plans for the site and the amount of housing for the proposed development.

The representative for Harrow East said: “Questions remain about the actual amount of housing intended for this site.

“Harrow Council failed to provide a planning brief for this project so the building agreement has been put into place without any guidelines as to the density of homes on this site.

“I am concerned that, without these safeguards, it could be a potential nightmare for current local residents.”

Notting Hill Housing says a consultation of people living in the area and other major stakeholders on the early designs will begin soon.
