New rules for chuggers in town centres across Harrow
New rules have been introduced for the management of on-street charity fundraisers in Harrow's town centres.
Harrow Borough Council is introducing the measures to limit the number of charities raising funds and the days and hours they can operate across the borough.
The council hopes the new rules will improve people’s experience of town centres and is introducing the measures in partnership with the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association.
The rules will limit only one charity to operate per day, and fundraisers will only be able to work three days a week, between 9am and 7pm and with a maximum of four fundraisers at a time.
The council hopes the move will stop fundraisers from following shoppers when they decline to stop.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Thaya Idaikkadar says the agreement recognises the need of charities to raise money in this way, but also their responsibility not to spoil people’s enjoyment of Harrow's "vibrant" town centres.
