Facilities at a new school have been completed as part of a £29 million project ready for the new school year in September.

Even with the summer holidays well under way staff and pupils of the Village, in Grove Park, Kingsbury are already looking forward to the new term.

Two thirds of the 235 pupils moved into the school last school year which has been rebuilt a centre of excellence for pupils with special educational needs.

The facilities at the site will provide the best possible education for pupils from the ages of two to 19 with complex learning difficulties and disabilities.

Headtecher of the school Kay Johnson said: "We're still unpacking but the pupils who moved in before the end of term absolutely love it.

“Everyone who steps inside is speechless at what has been achieved. It's met and exceeded the vision that we, and the wider community, set out at the beginning.”

Work on the project was helped by Brent Borough Council and includes new facilities such as a large performing arts centre, therapy, sensory and calm rooms and a cafe which pupils will help run.

The school also has its own self contained apartment to help give older pupils the chance to live independently and learn life skills.

During the construction stages and up until completion pupils were taught in temporary classrooms on the grounds of neighbouring Kingsbury High School, in Princes Avenue.
