Parking charge changes in North Harrow to help make fees fairer says Harrow Borough Council
Harrow Borough Council says new parking fees will make charges fairer across the whole borough.
The comments come following concerns from shoppers and traders that North Harrow could lose its hour of concession parking under new proposals for parking charges.
A campaign has been started against the council's plans to withdraw the one hour of free parking in the Cambridge Road car park on weekdays and charge 80p, which traders fear will damage business.
The council’s corporate director for environment and enterprise Caroline Bruce said: “Harrow Council offered one hour of free parking in North Harrow in 2004 as a temporary measure after a nearby Safeway closed.
“Now that North Harrow is back on its feet with a reduction in shop vacancy rates and a thriving high street, this concession will now end, as previously agreed.
“The new parking charges will make parking fairer across the whole borough.
“Soon we will be starting a 20 minutes free parking trial in Rayners Lane to see if this is something that could be benefit the whole of Harrow and help boost the local economy.”
