A historic church mosaic that lay hidden for more than 50 years is being revealed as part of a restoration project.

Work restoring the hidden treasure at All Saints Church in Uxbridge Road, Harrow Weald, has been under way for three weeks and most of the artwork has now been uncovered.

The church, with its mosaic, was designed by architect William Butterfield, famous for his Gothic Revival style, in 1890.

The mosaic wall of the Grade II listed building was painted over in the 1950s as it was deemed vulgar and did not fit in with the fashion of the period.

It is hoped the work will be completed next week and scaffolding will be taken down to reveal its work in all its glory.
