A senior policeman has praised officers for their work after a woman was stabbed in Harrow.

Police were called to Hindes Road, Harrow, yesterday at 9.27am to reports of an assault involving a man and a woman.

The woman had received multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital by the London Air Ambulance which landed in Harrow Recreation Ground. The man was also taken to hospital.

Harrow Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens told Harrow Police and Community Consultative group the incident was a domestic situation and not a random attack on the street, but praised his officers for the way they dealt with it.

He said: “The officers who attended the scene were heroic for dealing with a dangerous situation involving knives.

“And they certainly saved the life of one of the people with the first aid they gave. They gave that person the best possible chance of living.”

Neighbours described their feelings as emergency services descended on the street.

Anjana Santhosh, who lives nearby, said: “It’s really shocking to have something like that happen so close to where you live.

“I had gone for a walk in the morning and by the time I had come back the whole road was closed off. There were a lot of police around.

“At first we had no idea what had happened. It’s a concern to have something so violent happen so close to you.”

Anju Mathias, 51, who also lives near the address, said: “It’s just really sad something like that would happen here. It’s just not something you would expect on your doorstep.

“I had just been to the shops and there was one police car when I came back but lots more came after very quickly.

“The police were very good and polite to us and we were told we could not come out of our homes.”
