The leader of Harrow Borough Council has given his backing to calls for politics to be taught as part of the national curriculum.

Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar signed letters written as part of the #Pol4Schools campaign being run by a national student newspaper Shout Out UK.

He backed the campaign when he met with its founder Matteo Bergamini in January.

The campaign calls for every student to be taught how the government works, how new laws are created, how democracy is different in other countries and how to become directly involved in British politics.

The letters urge schools to support the campaign and attend an official launch event to be held on April 20 in the council chambers at Harrow Civic Centre.

Does this mean that Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar could be replaced by a rubber stamp?
