The scene outside a house where a dead body was found in Stanmore
Neighbours say they are in shock after a man’s body was found in a Stanmore street described as "the safest place to live”.
Police were called to The Common, at 7.05am today after reports a body had been found.
Up to seven police cars attended the scene, at which the London Ambulance Service pronounced the man dead.
A neighbour who did not wish to be named said: “It’s a very quiet area and this is the safest place to live.
“I’m shocked to hear that a dead body has been found, especially as it’s a main road and there is always traffic.”
The death is currently being treated as unexplained as the cause is yet to be established.
Police have been asking residents in the affluent area if they saw anything suspicious and have been checking CCTV footage for anything that may help their investigation.
A cleaner working at neighbouring property said: “Nothing like this has ever happened before.
“I took the dog for a walk this morning and saw two police cars outside the house.
“Later officers knocked on my door to ask if I had seen anything and to take a look at the CCTV in the house.”
The body has not yet been identified and a police investigation continues.
