Children at Northwick Park Hospital have had a visit from a four-legged friend to make them feel better.

Poppy, a four-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, visited the hospital as part of the Pets as Therapy (PaT) project.

It was the first time a PaT dog has visited the hospital and seven-year-old Isabella Kuniqi, and her mother, Natasha, were first to meet her.

Mrs Kuniqi said: “Isabella was very excited about meeting Poppy and spent quite a while calmly petting her.

“Poppy seemed to love all the attention too.”

Pets as Therapy is a national charity that provides therapeutic visits to a variety of venues by volunteers with dogs and cats.

The visit was organised with Kissing it Better, a charity that helps improve the care of patients and their carers in hospitals and care homes.

It is hoping to arrange further visits so elderly patients can enjoy some time with Poppy.
