Schoolchildren picked up shovels and braved freezing temperatures to help the mayor keep up an annual tradition this week.

Pupils from Norbury School in Welldon Crescent helped Harrow Mayor Nazim Ismail plant a Dawn Redwood tree in Harrow Recreation Ground on Monday March 11.

The 22-year-old tradition involves the Mayor planting a tree in the 'Mayor's avenue' every spring.

The first mayoral tree was planted in 1991 by Cllr John Cripps.
