Sarah Benbelaid is in the regional final of the Teen Star singing competition
A young dancer from Kenton has shown she is more than just a one trick pony.
Sarah Benbelaid of Moorhouse Road, will be performing in the regional final of the Teen Star singing competition in which she will be performing The Wizard and I from the musical Wicked.
The 14-year-old has only recently started singing lessons but made it through to this stage after performing Alexandra Burke’s version of Hallelujah at her audition.
During her call back she performed Put Your Record On by Corinne Bailey Rae.
Sarah, who has been practising by performing at open mic slots once a month, said: “The audition went really well.
“It was quite nerve racking beforehand but in the end it was fine.”
The year nine pupil, who attends Park High School, has been dancing since she was four and hopes to open her own dance school when she is older.
She has just finished choosing her GCSEs and will be studying drama and dance.
Ms Benbelaid added: “I’m really excited about the final because this is the first thing I have done for singing.
“I chose the song from Wicked because I have performed it at an open mic before and it went down really well.”
The Teen Star regional final will be held at the Beck Theatre in Hayes on Saturday March 16.
The winner will go through to the national final at the 02 Arena and will have the chance to win £20,000 worth of prizes, including £5,000 to develop their talent.
