Counillors rule that supermarket Morrisons must share new car park with Harrow Arts Centre

A supermarket in Hatch End wishing to build 45 new parking spaces will only be granted permission if it shares them with a neighbouring arts centre.

Morrisons in Uxbridge Road has applied to build a ramped car park deck to increase the number of parking bays from 350 to 395 and ensure its customers do not cause congestion.

However, Harrow Borough Council’s planning committee feels the expansion would be too large unless the spaces are shared with the neighbouring Harrow Arts Centre.

As part of a public consultation into the expansion, the arts centre said its parking is under considerable pressure on most days and a proportion of customers are known to make use of the supermarket car park.

The centre would be keen to support an increase in parking provided its users could have access to the car park every day.

The Hatch End Trader's Association also said shared parking with the arts centre would be a condition of any future consent.

It also expressed concern about light pollution in the area and asked that more trees be planted around the perimeter of the site.

Morrisons has proposed to plant 27 new trees around the car park and the perimeter of the site.

The plans will be debated at a meeting of the planning committee at 6.30pm on March 13.

It is a Shame that the Council did not give Parking a Thought before allowing the medical surgery on the Uxbridge road! That will not have helped matters for parking at the RCT.

Sounds like BLACKMAIL and EXTORTION to me. So unless Morrisons "share" THEIR parking that THEY have paid for, FREE OF CHARGE to a Council facility that is subsidized by the taxpayer, they cannot add extra spaces.

Meanwhile there is now a 24HOUR BUS LANE just past Morrisons so that the PARASITE COUNCIL can levy fines and penalties for "revenue" even at 3 in the morning. And they are about to embark on SHOP DESTROYING Parking Restictions in Hatch End Shopping Centre, naturally for more "revenue", because of the "cuts".

Strange how Parking restrictions and business destruction is OK for the Conservative Leader's ward of Hatch End. It doesn't affect Gareth Thomas as it isn't in his constituency since the boundary changes, so no vote lost for the Shadow Minister for Standing Outside Buildings.

No surprises that similar Parking Rip-Offs and shop-killers aren't being considered in the LABOUR wards of Queensbury (The Mayor and Finance Portfolio seats) and Edgware (Deputy Mayor, ex-Mayor and Housing Portfolio Seats). Funny that!!

But it's the "CUTS" innit!!!! LABOUR - One (Broken) Nation. LABOUR - On your backs, keeping you broke.

"The Hatch End Association also said shared parking with the arts centre would be a condition of any future consent."

Perhaps the "worthies" of the hatch End Association would care to chip in some of THEIR OWN MONEY for this project. Do they not realise that all of these "goodies" and "freebies" ADD to the cost of your weekly shop, just as the "green" subsidies for useless windmills add nearly a third to your utility bills.

Who the hell do they think they are dictating policy as to what a major local EMPLOYER, taxpayer and amenity can and cannot do??? You want to have a say "worthies", then STAND FOR ELECTION.

And if Morrisons decide to tell Harrow Council of Idiots and the Hatch End Commissariat to get stuffed, then what? You get NOTHING.

There is nothing worse than the municipal mafiosi and their pathetic attempts at BLACKMAIL

I was given to understand that when the store was built, that there was to be an arrangement with Safeway about the car park being used by users of the Arts Centre. Did this ever occur or did it change when Safeway was taken over.

Andrew Harrow - Look at the parking fiasco regarding the Polyclinic in Rayners lane. Supposed to serve over 20,000 people, 16 spaces but only 8 for we mere proles.

As I said before, we have idiots running this Borough and here's an interesting observation...

Hatch End is about to have it's shops destroyed by an incompetenyt and uncaring Lanour Party in its drive for "revenue", parasitic parking charges and fines, oh yes and that 24hour bus-lane for penalties at 3am.

They don't give a toss as it's a "Tory" area with a "Tory MP" so it won't impact on Gareth Thomas, the Shadow Minister for Standing Outside Buildings, nor the Labour "run" Council. There are NO similar controls going into Queensbury now Edgware, both Labour Wards, while in Imperial Drive, Rayners Lane, DOUBLE YELLOW LINES ouside more of the already overburdened shops (split ward, blame the "Tory cuts")

Cynical and TRUE.
