Spinal cord charity Aspire offers free training for disabled people to become fitness instructors

A Stanmore charity that supports people with spinal cord injuries is giving disabled people in Harrow the chance to become fitness instructors.

Aspire, which is based in Wood Lane, is inviting anyone in the borough who is disabled, unemployed and over the age of 16 to apply for free training as fitness instructors with the award winning InstructAbility programme.

The spinal injury charity and YMCA Fitness Industry Training created the programme to increase the number of disabled fitness professionals working in the industry.

Those who successfully apply will receive free training specifically for disabled people, leading to an internationally recognised qualification.

After completing the course, students are then placed in a working gym or fitness centre to carry out voluntary work and gain practical experience.

Once qualified, participants are given support to find placements and work in the fitness industry.

A selection day for the course will be held at the Aspire National Training Centre on Tuesday March 26.

The project is funded by a £850,000 grant from Sport England and will be rolled-out nationwide.
