Schools in Harrow have become the first in the capital to make environmental changes set out by the Mayor of London.
Harrow Borough Council is the first local authority in the capital to complete the RE:FIT programme and is the third best borough in London for reducing its CO2 emissions.
The programme included boiler replacements, modern lighting upgrades, insulation and draughtproofing in six of the borough’s schools.
The project guarantees to deliver at least a 20 per cent saving in carbon emissions and energy bill savings and a payback period of up to ten years.
The scheme hopes to reduce London’s CO2 emissions by 60 per cent of 1990 levels by 2025.
