Harrow Borough Council apologises for failing to empty Stanmore bins

Harrow Borough Council has apologised for failing to empty the bins outside a block of flats in Stanmore - for a second time.

An elderly couple living in the Elizabeth Gardens block have complained repeatedly that their bins have not been emptied.

In a statement the council said: “Our collection team visited Elizabeth Gardens on Saturday 2 February and collected from the bin storage area.

“We will be revisiting Elizabeth Gardens on February 8 to remove any excess waste.

“We understand that delays to the service can be frustrating and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Colin Gray, 76, complained to Harrow Borough Council after Christmas because the bins outside his flat were only emptied once between December 22 and January 11.

At the time the council apologised and offered to give the area around the bins a thorough clean.

However, last Friday the rubbish trucks again failed to appear meaning that it is now two weeks

As a result, they are overflowing leaving the ground littered with everything from food waste to used nappies.

Mr Gray, who has lived on the street for 30 years, said: “It has happened again. It is becoming exasperating.

“What can you do? All the other flats in this street seem to have their bins collected, we just get missed out.

“It is getting on our nerves. We keep complaining to the council but I am getting sceptical about their excuses.”

Looks like the bins are empty to me !!! Look at the rubbish strewn all over the floor, If the residents can't be bothered to bag it up and keep it tidy why should you expect the binmen to pick up dirty nappies and food waste.

Elliegirl with all due respect i believe that the problem is that as a result of the bins not being emptied they then overflowed. That is not the residents fault. If the bins were emptied by the binmen there would be no overflowing waste to begin with.

I understand that, but the mess on the floor is due to the residents.Unbagged waste is no fault of the binmen if they had any pride in where they lived they would have bagged it properly !! I know where i live if the binmen don't call for a week and it does not fit in the bin, we bag it properly and tie so it does not get scattered all over the place not in little plastic bags!!
We love blaming everybody else for the mess we make people should take some responsibility for the way they live themselves.

I agree, Elliegirl. It's a pain in the backside when the council forgets to empty your bin. I live in a medium block of flats which has been missed a couple of times in the past year.

The picture above just looks like the residents don't care. Like they think it's someone else's problem to deal with, and they can just leave their rubbish where they want. Have some pride in where you live.
