Herbert Crossman to stand as independent candidate in Harrow West by-election
A well-known campaigner and protestor has announced that he will be standing as an independent candidate at the Harrow West by-election
Herbert Crossman, a security consultant and long-time campaigner, will stand at the election which is to take place on February 21.
The Rayners Lane man is best known for having hung himself upside down from a crane in Trafalgar Square in 2008 in an attempt to protest against the cost of living.
He was a Harrow councillor between 1994 and 1998 and has since contested several local, European and general elections.
He has previously stood as a UKIP candidate.
The election is being held to find a replacement for Brian Gate who resigned after he was cautioned by the police for being in possession of indecent images.
Mr Gate was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for two years.
