Flustered and running slightly late, a familiar looking mop of blond hair greeted travellers at Harrow-on-the-Hill station today.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson was in town to visit Harrow Central Mosque and meet members of the local Muslim community - but also gave support to the Tories' prospective parliamentary candidate for the Harrow West constituency Hannah David, a former Hertsmere borough councillor.

Following a typically Boris-like briefing, in which the tired mayor asked for a cup of tea only to have it whisked away from him, he suggested accessibility arrangements at Harrow station would be reconsidered.

He then walked to meet worshippers at Harrow Central Mosque, where he said his great grandfather had been a muslim refugee.

And with police station closures announced recently, as well as the borough's police commander announcing his resignation, high street trade suffering and political parties trading blows over council tax, there was plenty to talk about when he stopped to talk to Times reporter Emma Innes.

Emma's interview will appear in full on this website and in next week's Times.
