Two young volunteers have been recognised for their work making hospital patients happier.

Miles Otway and Niam Radia were awarded Jack Petchey awards for outstanding achievement after being nominated by fellow volunteers at Radio Northwick Park, which broadcasts to patients at Northwick Park Hospital.

For winning the award, each was given £200 for the charity and they will be able to decide how it is spent.

Niam said: “I'm very honoured to winning the Jack Petchey award.

“Thank you very much to all who participated and nominated me.

“Having only joined the charity in September 2012, I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone for making me feel at ease from the very start."

Miles, who is the station's current highest fundraiser, said: "I am ecstatic and so honoured to receive the Jack Petchey award.

“It's such a humbling experience to be recognised by your peers for the work that you put into charity.

"For every hour I have put in and every penny I have raised, I have had such an awesome time doing it, and hope to do much much more for those in need in the future."

The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme recognises students who achieve something outstanding regardless of what that achievement maybe.
