Thousands of Harrow pensioners could be nearly £2,000 a year better off if they claimed all of the benefits they are entitled to.
This is the view of Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who is urging pensioners to make sure that they are receiving all possible benefits as part of this year’s Know Your Rights campaign.
Figures suggest about 4,200 pensioners in Harrow are missing out on an extra £1,800 a year in benefits.
Mr Johnson is encouraging older people to call Age UK or to contact their local Citizens Advice Bureau to check they are receiving all of the support available.
He said: “As temperatures plummet, many households face extra pressure on their budgets as their fuel bills increase.
“I would urge pensioners to pick up the phone and make one simple call to check they are receiving all the financial support they are entitled to.”
The Age UK number is 0800 169 6565.
