Harrow East MP Bob Blackman criticised the borough's council for raising its share of council tax on the national television yesterday.

Mr Blackman was asked about Harrow Borough Council's proposed two per cent council tax rise on the BBC’s Sunday Politics Show.

He claimed the authority is one of only two in London planning to increase the tax in April.

Mr Blackman criticised the increase, arguing that all across London council’s have identified savings without cuts to frontline services and without the need to increase taxation, adding that from April Harrow residents will be paying the third highest council taxes in London.

Harrow Borough Council will vote on the proposed council tax increase at a meeting on February 28.

Starbright from the comments you have made on a number of articles you sound like a councillor, maybe you could explain why Harrow gets a lower grant from Government than other London Boroughs like Brent?

Voice of realism I am not a councillor, but am someone who cares about the truth being told! It does not take a lot to search and find the reality of what is really going on! If you look at the local govt settlement for the year 2013/2014, it gives a higher figure per head in Harrow than Harrow Council have quoted and a 1.5% reduction not 1.8% again as has been quoted! It is for the Council to challenge why they get less than Brent, and for them also to explain to us more clearly why this has happened!
