Harrow Borough Council holds clothes swapping event

Thrifty and environmentally-friendly Harrow residents are being invited to attend a clothes swap run by Harrow Borough Council.

The 'swishing' event is part of the council’s Wear it, Love it, Share it campaign which is being run in partnership with the West London Waste Authority to encourage people to trade in good quality unwanted clothes.

People will be able to drop off their clothes at Gayton Library, in St John’s Road, from 11am today and collect others from 1pm until 2pm.

People are being encouraged to attend with up to ten good-quality items of clothing, shoes or accessories.

They will be given a token for every item they donate and will be able to exchange these for other goods.

Harrow Council’s portfolio holder for environment and community safety, Councillor Phillip O’Dell, explained that with recycling in Harrow already among the highest in London, the authority had decided to work on reducing waste going to dumps.

He said: “Residents will be helping to save landfill space, save valuable resources and prevent damage to the environment.

"Reducing waste will ultimately have a huge impact on landfill costs so I would encourage all of our residents to come and get ‘swishing’ to help reduce waste and to revamp their wardrobe without breaking the bank.”
