The chairman of the Football Association launched an educational DVD about the Holocaust yesterday afternoon.
David Bernstein visited Park High School, in Thistlecroft Gardens, Stanmore, where he spoke to Year 10 students and launched the film Introduction to the Holocaust: Footballers Remember, which was put together following a visit the England football squad made to Auschwitz in June 2012.
Produced by the Holocaust Educational Trust in partnership with the Football Association, the DVD be delivered to all secondary schools across England.
It is accompanied by lesson plans and features well known England players discussing why they feel it is important to learn about the Holocaust as well as testimony from a number of Holocaust survivors.
Narrated by Sky Sports presenter, Ben Shephard, the DVD also includes footage of the England team’s visit to the camp as well as archive footage.
Mr Bernstein said: “This educational partnership brings together the important work of teaching future generations about the horrors of the Holocaust, using the ability of football to interest and engage young people.
“There are so many lessons to be learnt and understood, and we believe football can play its part in encouraging society to speak out against intolerance in all its forms.
“I am proud that Roy Hodgson and the England team are supporting such an important initiative and I would encourage all English schools to take advantage of the learning materials that have been created.”
