The chief executive of The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust is to become acting chief executive for Ealing Hospitals NHS Trust.
David McVittie’s appointment comes at a time when the trusts are beginning to work together in the build-up to a potential merger.
Ealing Hospital NHS Trust chairman Ian Green called the appointment "the right and sensible approach".
He said: “Both trust boards strongly support the merger, as we believe this will secure the best possible care for our patients and the best opportunities for our staff.
“We are looking forward to David joining our team and welcome the breadth of experience and knowledge he will bring to this role.”
The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust runs Northwick Park Hospital, St Mark’s Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital.
